Ingredients

  • lbs ground beef 80/20 for juicy burgers
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese or preferred cheese
  • For the Foil Packs:
  • 3 cups baby potatoes quartered
  • cups mixed vegetables e.g., bell peppers, zucchini, onions, or green beans
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried herbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: ketchup mustard, or burger sauce for serving

Method

  1. Preheat Oven or Grill:
  2. Oven: Preheat to 400°F (200°C)
  3. Grill: Preheat to medium-high heat
  4. Make the Patties:
  5. In a bowl, mix ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 equal burger patties.
  6. Prep the Veggies & Potatoes:
  7. In another bowl, toss quartered potatoes and vegetables with olive oil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  8. Assemble Foil Packets:
  9. Cut 4 large sheets of heavy-duty foil. In the center of each, add a portion of the potatoes and vegetables. Place a burger patty on top. Seal foil tightly into packets.
  10. Cook:
  11. Oven: Bake packets on a baking sheet for 30–35 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and burgers are fully cooked.
  12. Grill: Grill over indirect heat for 25–30 minutes, flipping once.
  13. Add Cheese & Finish:
  14. Carefully open each foil packet, place a slice of cheese over the burger, and reseal loosely. Let sit for 2–3 minutes off heat to melt the cheese.
  15. Serve:
  16. Open packets fully and serve with optional condiments or a side salad.

Notes

  • Make it spicy: Add sliced jalapeños or chili flakes to the veggie mix.
  • Customizable: Swap beef for turkey, chicken, or plant-based patties.
  • Camping tip: Prep everything at home and chill until ready to cook over a campfire.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in foil or airtight container for up to 3 days.
