Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 packet 1 oz ranch seasoning mix
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese optional, for extra richness
  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives for garnish

Method

  1. Season & Sear Chicken:
  2. Pat chicken dry and season with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Make the Sauce:
  4. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add butter and minced garlic; cook for 1 minute. Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1 minute.
  5. Simmer:
  6. Whisk in chicken broth and heavy cream. Stir in ranch seasoning and bring to a gentle simmer for 2–3 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  7. Add Chicken & Cheese:
  8. Return chicken to the skillet and spoon sauce over the top. Cover and simmer on low for 10–12 minutes until the chicken is cooked through. Stir in cheddar cheese if using and let melt into the sauce.
  9. Serve:
  10. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve with mashed potatoes, pasta, rice, or steamed veggies.

Notes

  • Swap cream for half-and-half or milk for a lighter version.
  • Chicken thighs work just as well and are extra juicy.
  • Add spinach, mushrooms, or bacon for extra flavor and texture.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days — reheat gently on the stove.
